Woofun AI reports that the World Foundation has secured a $52.5M funding round led by Pantera to expand World ID, a biometric infrastructure designed to distinguish humans from AI agents.
The capital injection, announced on Friday, also attracted participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto.
Notably, the WLD tokens issued during this fundraising are subject to a 12-month lockup period, restricting immediate market circulation.
Structurally, World ID generates digital credentials after users complete biometric verification via a World Orb device.
The deeper driver is the rising prevalence of AI-generated content and autonomous agents, which increases demand for systems verifying human identity. The project was originally conceived by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Max Novendstern, and Tools for Humanity CEO Alex Blania.
Per Woofun AI, the organization faces regulatory scrutiny in several jurisdictions regarding its biometric identity verification system. This marks a continued tension between decentralized identity solutions and traditional privacy frameworks.
