Woofun AI reports that Foundry, the world’s largest Bitcoin mining pool, has initiated a strategic vote on Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 110 (BIP-110), igniting a debate involving key industry figures like Adam Back and Michael Saylor.
The proposal seeks to reduce the amount of data that can be stored in a Bitcoin transaction, specifically targeting Ordinals. To guide clients through this shift, Foundry published educational resources and distributed a link via email in early August, ahead of block 961,632.
Woofun AI data shows Foundry controls approximately 23.8% of the total hashrate, giving this operational response significant weight.
Opposition arguments highlight severe network risks, with Adam Back coming out strongly against the measure due to fears it could freeze user funds. Michael Saylor, representing Strategy, warns that the change could invalidate ordinary transactions on the network, creating instability for everyday users.
This controversy underscores the tension within the mining landscape as one of the most controversial proposals faces scrutiny from figures with historical and technical weight. The outcome will likely define the future data capacity of the Bitcoin protocol.
