Woofun AI reports that Paul Meade, Apple's Vice President of Hardware Engineering for Vision Pro and smart glasses, will resign to join OpenAI's hardware division. Meade, an Apple veteran of 16 years who previously managed iPad and iPhone engineering, will oversee the development of future AI hardware devices.
Meade's departure coincides with significant restructuring within Apple's hardware division. Following John Ternus' confirmation to succeed Tim Cook as CEO, Chief Hardware Officer Johny Srouji reorganized leadership, placing Meade and other VPs under new Vice President Tom Marieb.
Additionally, Apple shifted focus from closed headsets to smart glasses amid Vision Pro sales challenges. At OpenAI, Meade will collaborate with former Apple design leaders Jony Ive, Tang Tan, and Evans Hankey, whose startup was acquired by OpenAI for $6.5 billion last year.
